The 2012
Chess Olympics was played this past Saturday December 1st, in Sardinia New
York. The event was hosted by Tom Warner at the Pioneer High School for no less
than 73 enthusiastic chess players. The tournament consisted of three sections
an Unrated section, a K-6 section and a K-12 section. Team trophies were
awarded for the top 3 teams in the K-6 and K-12 sections.
In the
K-6 section Global Concepts Charter school with the QueensKnight scholastic
affiliate won FIRST PLACE. Brighton school took SECOND PLACE and Pioneer took
THIRD PLACE. The other two teams were Horse Head and Pittsford.
The GCCS
team was comprised by Thomas Blum (3pts), Roman Castle (3pts.), Alexis Schlaak
(2pts), Ashton William (2pts.), Braden Chalupka (2pts), Armando Martinez
(2pts), and Alexis Burgos (1pt).
In the
K-12 section the Pioneer High School came out Victorious followed by Brighton
School and then in Third Place Global Concepts Charter school.
The GCCS team was made up by Benjamin Rummell,
Sam Santora, John H. Blum, Mason Coleman, Sabrina Campbell, Enya Cirillo, David
Primosch, and Miguel Mercado.
Individually
the K-12 was won by Ryan Madden Champion, Owen Shriver 2nd pace, and Abe Glasser
3rd place. In the K-6 the Champion was Wendell Lambert, and in the Unrated
section Paradis Connor was the Champion.
The
Unrated section involved Paradis Connor (won individual), Colby Hess (Third
place individual), Mathew France, Naim Wood, Julien Andross, James Davila, Jayla
Collins, Chai Cendening, and Selena Martinez.
